Every since I was little, my home was filled with music. My mother is amazing at playing the piano. She can sit down and without music play beautiful songs that she writes in the moment. She taught me from an early age the importance of music as I saw her example, as well as by teaching me piano lessons. I always loved music and knew how important it was because of her love of music. My mother received her love of music from her own mother. I remember sitting at the feet of my Nana and listening to her sing and play the music. I loved this moments and cherish these memories of her singing us some of her favorite songs.
I try to bring music into my own home with our children. My son plays the trumpet and my daughter is interested in learning the piano and violin soon. Unfortunately, as a parent, home life is so busy and often we aren’t able to give our children the amount of time to appreciate music as they need. I was blessed as a child because we had a music program in our school that started at 4th grade. With my love of music, I joined the school band and learned how to play the Clarinet. I have so many great memories learning to play the Clarinet and it taught me a skill that I still use many years later.
I agree with the quote above that music is so important. It saddens me to hear about how school are starting to cut their music program. There are so many amazing benefits that come from music. Music calms me, teaches me, enlightens me, and entertains me. Music is a gift that I think all kids should be able to have. With the help of Schoola, we can help! I have paired with Schoola to help save KIPP Academies music program! I had the choice of different schools to support and I chose KIPP Academy because I am passionate about the music program. This is a fantastic cause that you can help with, too!
About KIPP Academy-
“A small school in the Bronx, KIPP Academy works hard to support kids who need all the help they can get. Ninety-five percent of its students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch. More than one in seven receives special education services. Music helps KIPP Academy reach and engage every child who enters its doors. The slogan on the Music Room wall sets the stage—All of Us Will Learn Music. No matter what backgrounds they come from or what challenges they face, they learn lessons together that will serve them the rest of their lives.”

About Schoola and the Campaign:
“Schoola is an online shop dedicated to recycling brand-name children’s clothes, with 40% of the proceeds going to schools in need. The innovative new program – which saves parents money and gives back at the same time – has been heralded by Fox News, the LA Times, Forbes and Parenting Magazine.”
This campaign’s theme is “20 Days of Schoola” Adopt-a-School and will focus on “adopting” one of three schools who would greatly benefit from additional funds to bring or bolster creative programs.
