We recently had the opportunity to go on an RV trip as a family and one of the States that we were able to drive through was South Dakota. If you ever have the opportunity to visit South Dakota, I highly recommend it because there is so much to see and do. I wish that we would have had more time to spend visiting each of the sites and seeing the places that we didn’t get to see.
Here are Four Must See Destinations in South Dakota:
1. Mount Rushmore- Seeing Mount Rushmore is amazing. It really is amazing to see what they were able to create. Unfortunately, we were there on a rainy day and only received glimpses of the mountain. I’m sure it would be beautiful to go back on a sunny day and really see it. I recommend taking time to watch the video in the visitors center where you can learn more about the making of Mount Rushmore.
2. Crazy Horse Memorial- “The Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain monument under construction on privately held land in the Black Hills, in Custer County, South Dakota. It depicts Crazy Horse, an Oglala Lakota warrior, riding a horse and pointing into the distance.” This is an unfinished monument that they are still working on. If you have a chance to be there during a blast it is really fun to see how they change the mountain to make their monument.
3. Custer State Park- It doesn’t take long to drive through Custer State park but it is definitely worth it. We saw so many bison, prairie dogs, Elk, deer and more. This was definitely a highlight of our trip!
4. Mount Rushmore KOA Resort– This is the first time I have stayed at a KOA resort. They are amazing and have so much to do. I would recommend spending time to just enjoy the resort. You can go swimming, do crafts, enjoy a Pancake breakfast, go on a horse ride and so much more at this resort.
South Dakota is beautiful and has so much history to it. I hope that you get a chance to visit and enjoyed it as much as we did!
