Back to School Teacher Gift

I can’t believe that it is actually the time of year to be talking about “Back to School”.  I guess since, my kids are going back in less than 3 weeks, its time to get prepared! Every year at the start of the school year, my kids like to get a back to school gift for their teachers.  Mainly, a say “hi” and I’m excited to get to know you gift!  We like to make the gift together, so I like to find something that is easy enough for my kids to help me with, but also has the fun, “wow” factor.

It drives me crazy to go to a million stores looking for the perfect gift, so normally we go to Michaels.  Michaels is fabulous because they have everything on the craft side of things but they also have lots of little items that make great teacher gifts. I had the opportunity to work with Michaels for a Back to School Review.  I received a gift card from them to facilitate my review, but all opinions are my own.

Together, we made a super Rough Sketch of what we wanted to create, and set off to Michaels to find all of the pieces.  We were able to find all of the perfect items for what we wanted to make and even a few more.

Here is what I got from Michaels.  Ribbon, brads, clothes pins, Doilies, Paper, Gift Bags, and stickers. We also purchased glue dots and Chalkboard Vinyl which are un-pictured.  I also used my Cricut Mini. With this purchase we have more than enough stuff to make a bag for all three of my kids, teachers.

As these are gifts for their teachers, I let them pick out items to put inside their bag.  It is important to make sure that the items you chose aren’t too tall or too wide for your bag.  My children choses stickers, note pads, pencils and a pen.  I thought they chose great back to school items to go inside the back to school gift.

Like I mentioned above, I wanted the gift to be one that my kids could make for their teachers so it is very easy to assemble.  Here are the steps to make this gift.

1. Cut out the Chalkboard Vinyl and lined paper with your Cricut Machine.  I used one of the Frame Backgrounds.  If you don’t have a Cricut, you could just cut it out into a square.  Write teachers name on the Chalkboard with Chalk.
2.  I also cut out a bow on my Cricut mini to add to the top of my gift back.
3. Apply your Chalkboard Frame to the front of your gift bag.
4.  Cut ribbon the length of your bag. Glue ribbon of your choice over Chalkboard. Add sticker for more detail.
5.  Apply the lined paper with glue dots to the back of your bag.  This piece needs to be glued almost all the way down the bag.  Write a note to your teacher, or information about your child.
6. Put your gifts inside bag.
7. Wrap thick twine around bag and tie.
8. Fold Doilies in half and and clothes pin doily, bow (held together with a brad), and photo to the bag. (Photo taken with Fujifilm Instamax)
9. I added a sticker to the back of my bag.

I really liked the idea of having a spot to leave a note for your teacher.  I used this area to tell her things about my daughter that I thought would be important for her to know.  I wanted to this item to be really personalized.  Since they don’t know my child ahead of time, with this gift, they can put a name to the face as well as some quick facts about them.  Here is the front and back:
